What Doctors Do When You Are Not Watching

Your Wellbeing, Your Life, Your Responsibility

Doctors Are the Third Leading Cause of Death in the US, causing 250,000 Deaths Every Year. This landmark article was published by the Journal of the American Medical Association. The author, Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health describes how the US health care system may contribute to poor health.

Dr. Starfield also offers several warnings in interpreting the numbers:
  • First, most of the data are derived from studies in hospitalized patients.
  • Second, these estimates are for deaths only and do not include negative effects that are associated with disability or discomfort.
  • Third, the estimates of death due to error are lower than those in the Institute of Medicine report.
Grim numbers
All the deaths per year breakdown as follows:
  • 12,000  -  unnecessary surgery
  • 7,000    -  medications errots in hospitals
  • 20,000  -  other wrrors in hospitals
  • 80,000  -  infections in hospitals
  • 106,000-  non-error, negative effects of drugs
Another analysis concluded that between 4% and 18% of consecutive patients experience negative effects in outpatient settings, with:
  • 116 million extra physician visits
  • 77 million extra prescriptions
  • 17 million emergency department visits
  • 8 million hospitalizations
  • 3 million long-term admissions
  • 199,000 additional deaths
  • $77 billion in extra costs

These total to 250,000 deaths per year from iatrogenic causes! The word iatrogenic is defined as induced in a patient by a physician’s activity, manner, or therapy. Used especially of a complication of a medical intervention.

This data certainly put the state of healthcare of the
United St
ates in a bad light. Lack of technology is certainly not a contributing factor. In fact, the United States employs the highest technology in the world when it comes to healthcare. It certainly the care of  “high tech, low touch”.

Therefore, the answer is prevention, not treatment. Drugs, surgery and hospitals are rarely the answer to chronic health problems, born out of poor care and horrible abuse of the human body. Facilitating the God-given healing capacity that all of us have is the key.

Manage Your Own Care

Conventional medicine is changing. However, this may not be fast enough. So it is up to you to take charge of your own health.

This does not mean diagnosing your own health problems. However, it does mean learning all you can about safe, natural alternatives to the standard medical therapies of drugs and surgery. Improving your diet, exercise, and lifestyle are basic. Effective interventions for the underlying emotional and spiritual wounding behind most chronic illness are also important clues to maximizing health and reducing disease.

Learn about specific foods that have proven to prevent disease. Become knowledgeable about vitamins, minerals, and herbs that work as well as – far more safely than some of the most popular prescription drugs, And continue to educate yourself through health magazines, newletters and others like. Your health, and the health of your loved ones, depends upon it.

Americans More Afraid Of Doctors Mistakes Than Flying!

A national survey of over 2,000 adults Americans by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) indicate that people are more concerned about mistakes happening when they are in the hands of the health care system than when they are flying on an airplane. Large majorities say that information about medical errors (71%) and malpractice suits (70%) would be the biggest help to them in determining the quality of providers.
