Pengidap Asma

Ketika kanak-kanak, Sarah (bukan nama sebenar) mempunyai asma.

Institut Kesihatan Nasional AS memberikan petua-petua berikut:

Landscaping on a budget

serenemaklong.blogspot.com

Your garden is the first thing that greets you when you get home each day. It lets you connect with Mother Nature in the privacy of your abode, helping you unwind after a long day at work. Plants and flowers also help reduce noise and pollution.

While it makes sense why one should create a lovely garden, it is difficult to determine how much one should spend. Some landscape consultants recommend that 10% of the property’s value should be spent on this area.

If you want to give your garden a facelift on a budget, here’s how:

Prepare a plan
First, come up with a landscaping plan. Write down items that you would like to include in your garden. Landscaping can be “soft” or “hard”. Soft landscaping refers to plants and flowers, while hard landscaping includes pergola and water features. Depending on what you want and how big your garden is, what you spend on landscaping varies greatly. Soft landscaping is usually cheaper. You can just buy the plants and arrange them in your garden.

In short, a good plan should let you look ahead and know what you want to include in your garden.

Start with the basics
A basic 10ft x 30ft to beautify – RM450 for turfing, RM800 for tree planting, RM2,500 for a water feature or pod, RM1,500 for pergola, RM250 for a garden bench, RM150 for stepping stones and RM250 for a garden light.

If you do not have the budget yet for a more lavish version, start with the essential first. An initial effort such as basic grass will do. You can refer to your plan and carry out your work in stages. Let’s say you only have RM450 for your landscaping budget at this moment. You can start with lawn planting. When you have RM2,500 two months later, you can look at other parts of your garden, such as installing a pond.

Simpler measures such as buying and arranging plants in your garden are also a good start. Even a well-placed RM3.50 plant can alter the landscape.

Get very involved in your garden
Things cost less when you choose to do it yourself. Landscaping is no exception. Instead of paying professional landscape architects for their ideas and relying on them to source for the contractor and materials, you should do it yourself.

If you want plants, source it from Sungai Buloh, which is the best place to get cheap and good quality plants. You can also look for a landscape contractor on your own, which cuts out the middleman’s fee.

Look for less expensive alternatives. It is possible for cheaper materials to enhance your garden. It depends on what you classify as quality. You can replace one material with a less expensive one and still achieve a very good result. The important thing is to be creative.

Material vary in prices, so if you’re on a tight budget, you can choose the less expensive alternative. For example, if you’re thinking of doing a pergola, you can choose resak over chengal. Both are Malaysian hardwood but the price of chengal is double of that or resak.

Aside from cutting  costs, your participation can bring a unique quality to your garden. If you need inspiration, help is aplenty, from landscape magazines, books and the Internet. You may also need to know your plants. For instance, some plants need plenty of sunshine while others need to be kept in the shade. You can learn all this from the Internet.

Waspada Suplemen Herba

Dapatkan rawatan awal doktor jika mengalami ED.

GERD - Pedih Ulu Hati

Biasanya sfinkter esofagus bahagian bawah (LES) terasa ketat.

Segera dapatkan rawatan perubatan jika mengalami muntah teruk.

Metabolik Tinggi Langsingkan Badan

Pesakit obes mesti memahami proses metabolik.

Rawatan meningkatkan metabolisme memerlukan komitmen tinggi.

Asplenium nidus - Pokok Langsuir

Safety In The Rear View Camera

serenemaklong.blogspot.com

By Homer Ashburn

Rear view cameras – or backup cameras as they’re known in the US – are currently standard on some 204 models there (although mostly in trucks and high-end cars) and that plans are in place to get a law passed to make them compulsory in all cars by 2014.

This initiative by the US Department of Transportation is to ensure that the number of young children being hit by reversing vehicles – about 50 a week get runover with 70% of such cases being incidences of parents running down their own kids – will fall once such cameras are installed.

There are apparently a few types of back-up cameras; these range from the ones fitted to large trailers or motor-homes to one fitted onboard a car with the images displayed on the in-dash LCD monitor or external after-market GPS unit.

There’s just one problem; while such cameras do serve an important function – saving lives, minimizing potential damages to your car/the car you back into – they aren’t exactly the sort of rear viewing replacement for the tried and tested rear view mirror.

They serve, instead, as an extra safety precaution to wshow the driver potential obstacles and approaching walls (and another car’s bumper). As a camera to view fast approaching cars coming from the rear, they are not that useful.

The rear-view mirror, invented in 1914, it would seem, is still here to stay. But there is hope. Pioneer has launched what it calls the “augmented reality” sat nav, the AVIC-VH09CS, a double-DIN head unit that is essentially a GPS unit th
at can concurrently display realtime video images.

Being a Pioneer invention, it also plays CDs, DVDs, information on USB sticks and can even handle Bluetooth streaming.

They are calling the AVIC-VH09CS a “big leap forward in in-car navigation” because, thanks to its onboard forward looking camera, this sat nav van show the driver the real-time movement of other cars in front of them, the actual layout of the lanes and even give the right directions to go by superimposing the graphic information on the real-rtime video that the driver is viewing.

It even has the ability, apparently, of allowing the driver to change the “look” of the vehicles in front of them.Upset that you’re behind a garbage ruck? One flick of a touch screen and that offending vehicle becomes a supercar.

Of course, there is one problem with the AVIC-VH09CS, there’s no information available about whether it can look backwards as well instead of only just what’s in front of you. It also costs the most important bit – it’s only available in Japan.

For the rear-view video, you have to look for a vehicle that comes with a Valeo Vision Systems multi-camera system.

First equipped on a BMW 7 Series in 2009, this Irish piece of technological wonder allowed drivers using this system to see both what was in front of them while they were driving and what was behind them when they parallel-parked.

Fast-forward a few years later and an updated version found in a Range Rover was able to show the driver to select up to five views from their in-dash LCD monitor that includes rear video.

The Valeo on-board that Range Rover was able to show the driver the view from the rear and also allowed him to select the angle of the camera. It even allowed the driver to zoom in/out the image on display.

The Range Rover costs between RM658,888 and RM728,888. At such prices, such derams for many of us will remain just that, dreams.

Back to the humble rear view mirror then.

Take Care Of The Heart

serenemaklong.blogspot.com

A chat with Dr.Devi Shetty, Narayana Hrudayalaya (Heart Specialist) Bangalore was arranged by WIPRO for its employees.

The transcript of the chat is given below. Useful for everyone.

Qn: What are the thumb rules for a layman to take care of his heart?

Ans:
1. Diet - Less of carbohydrate, more of protein, less oil
2.. Exercise - Half an hour's walk, at least five days a week; avoid lifts and avoid sitting for a longtime
3. Quit smoking
4. Control weight
5. Control blood pressure and sugar

Qn: Is eating non-veg food (fish) good for the heart?

Ans: No

Qn: It's still a grave shock to hear that some apparently healthy person  gets a cardiac arrest. How do we understand it in perspective?

Ans: This is called silent attack; that is why we recommend everyone past the age of 30 to undergo routine health checkups.

Qn: Are heart diseases hereditary?

Ans: Yes

Qn: What are the ways in which the heart is stressed? What practices do you suggest to de-stress?

Ans: Change your attitude towards life. Do not look for perfection in everything in life.

Qn: Is walking better than jogging or is more intensive exercise required to keep a healthy heart?

Ans: Walking is better than jogging since jogging leads to early fatigue and injury to joints

Qn: You have done so much for the poor and needy. What has inspired you to do so?

Ans: Mother Theresa , who was my patient

Qn: Can people with low blood pressure suffer heart diseases?

Ans: Extremely rare

Qn: Does cholesterol accumulates right from an early age
(I'm currently only 22) or do you have to worry about it only after you are above 30 years of age?

Ans: Cholesterol accumulates from childhood.

Qn: How do irregular eating habits affect the heart ?

Ans: You tend to eat junk food when the habits are irregular and your body's enzyme release for digestion gets confused.

Qn: How can I control cholesterol content without using medicines?

Ans: Control diet, walk and eat walnut.

Qn: Can yoga prevent heart ailments?

Ans: Yoga helps.

Qn: Which is the best and worst food for the heart?

Ans: Fruits and vegetables are the best and the worst is oil.

Qn: Which oil is better - groundnut, sunflower, olive?

Ans: All oils are bad .

Qn: What is the routine checkup one should go through? Is there any specific test?

Ans: Routine blood test to ensure sugar, cholesterol is ok. Check BP, Treadmill test after an echo.

Qn: What are the first aid steps to be taken on a heart attack?

Ans: Help the person into a sleeping position , place an aspirin tablet under the tongue with a sorbitrate tablet if available, and rush him to a coronary care unit since the maximum casualty takes place within the first hour.

Qn: How do you differentiate between pain caused by a heart attack and that caused due to gastric trouble?

Ans: Extremely difficult without ECG.

Qn: What is the main cause of a steep increase in heart problems amongst youngsters? I see people of about 30-40 yrs of age having heart attacks and serious heart problems.

Ans: Increased awareness has increased incidents. Also, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, junk food, lack of exercise in a country where people are genetically three times more vulnerable for heart attacks than Europeans and Americans.

Qn: Is it possible for a person to have BP outside the normal range of 120/80 and yet be perfectly healthy?

Ans: Yes.

Qn: Marriages within close relatives can lead to heart problems for the child. Is it true?

Ans : Yes, co-sanguinity leads to congenital abnormalities and you may not have a software engineer as a child

Qn: Many of us have an irregular daily routine and many a times we have to stay late nights in office. Does this affect our heart ? What precautions would you recommend?

Ans : When you are young, nature protects you against all these irregularities. However, as you grow older, respect the biological clock.

Qn: Will taking anti-hypertensive drugs cause some other complications (short / long term)?

Ans : Yes, most drugs have some side effects. However, modern anti-hypertensive drugs are extremely safe.
Qn: Will consuming more coffee/tea lead to heart attacks?

Ans : No.

Qn: Are asthma patients more prone to heart disease?

Ans : No.

Qn: How would you define junk food?

Ans : Fried food like Kentucky , McDonalds , samosas, and even masala dosas..

Qn: You mentioned that Indians are three times more vulnerable. What is the reason for this, as Europeans and Americans also eat a lot of junk food?

Ans: Every race is vulnerable to some disease and unfortunately, Indians are vulnerable for the most expensive disease.

Qn: Does consuming bananas help reduce hypertension?

Ans : No.

Qn: Can a person help himself during a heart attack (Because we see a lot of forwarded emails on this)?

Ans : Yes. Lie down comfortably and put an aspirin tablet of any description under the tongue and ask someone to take you to the nearest coronary care unit without any delay and do not wait for the ambulance since most of the time, the ambulance does not turn up.

Qn: Do, in any way, low white blood cells and low hemoglobin count lead to heart problems?

Ans : No. But it is ideal to have normal hemoglobin level to increase your exercise capacity.

Qn: Sometimes, due to the hectic schedule we are not able to exercise. So, does walking while doing daily chores at home or climbing the stairs in the house, work as a substitute for exercise?

Ans : Certainly. Avoid sitting continuously for more than half an hour and even the act of getting out of the chair and going to another chair and sitting helps a lot..

Qn: Is there a relation between heart problems and blood sugar?

Ans: Yes. A strong relationship since diabetics are more vulnerable to heart attacks than non-diabetics.

Qn: What are the things one needs to take care of after a heart operation?

Ans : Diet, exercise, drugs on time , Control cholesterol, BP, weight..

Qn: Are people working on night shifts more vulnerable to heart disease when compared to day shift workers?

Ans : No.

Qn: What are the modern anti-hypertensive drugs?

Ans : There are hundreds of drugs and your doctor will chose the right combination for your problem, but my suggestion is to avoid the drugs and go for natural ways of controlling blood pressure by walk, diet to
reduce weight and changing attitudes towards lifestyles.

Qn: Does dispirin or similar headache pills increase the risk of heart attacks?

Ans : No.

Qn: Why is the rate of heart attacks more in men than in women?

Ans : Nature protects women till the age of 45.

Qn: How can one keep the heart in a good condition?

Ans : Eat a healthy diet, avoid junk food, exercise everyday, do not smoke and, go for health checkup s if you are past the age of 30 (once in six
months recommended)

Bunga Raya

Dua minggu lalu dua pelajar wanita nyaris menjadi mangsa keldai dadah.

Malaysia bukan pengeluar narkotik.

Property Investment

serenemaklong.blogspot.com

The smarter way for one to make money from properties is buying the properties and renting to your own company, You can get guaranteed rental income besides earning on the capital appreciation. In addition, you can legally turns most of your personal expenses into business deduction. For example, you drive a car that belongs to the company and arranges business meals, which can be reimbursed as entertainment expense from the company.

Rather than making big bucks as an individual, you just need these kinds of expenses to be paid by the company for you. Many of your expenses will not eat into your personal wealth and, at the same time, are tax-deductible for the business. You will be able to save your entire salary and in a few years you can achieve a personal net worth of RM1 million.

Juanita Chin and her husband Ignatius Shum bought properties and rent them to Japanese families. They receive a rental yield of 9% a year, and the property has appreciated by 30% to 40%. Over the 4 1/2 years since their venture into property investment, the couple has amassed 13 properties worth millions, eight of which were bought with zero or little money down.

The Chins read a lot of books and attended a many seminars just to improve knowledge on property investment and wealth accumulation. In fact, just one month after their first seminar, they did some calculations and knew that their property was a sure-buy. They  checked their returns and started negotiating. If they wait, they’d lose their courage, and, subsequently won’t take action.

They set their goals that they were going to own 10 properties by the time they reached 40. They reached the goal at 38. They believe in themselves very strongly, they never let their closest friends detract them from their goal.

If you have a beautiful house and do not mind having having people around, why not let it be used for a drama or movie shoot?

A quick survey of three local production houses shows that rental of property for a location shoot ranges from RM700 to RM5,000 a day, depending on the neighbourhood and type of property. Adam Yousof Mohamed Sinclair, a producer, advises property owners to ensure that a legal agreement is signed with the production house.

Ask to see the paperwork, even if it’s your family or friends. It is the producer’s job to lock in the location and handle paperwork within a week of the first meeting with the property owner.

Adam says accidents or mishaps can happen in your home but a disciplined crew that is careful while handling props will help to reduce such incidents. It is useful to take photos of everything in your house before the shoot starts so that you know where they should go after everything is done. Should there be an accident, it is the producer’s responsibility to notify the property owner immediately and settle the issue.  Communication is very important because you want to maintain the relationship. Who knows, they may want to use the same location again in the future.”

How do you market your home? Get to know people in production. The production houses look for locations where it can control traffic and the flow of people, has electricity supply and is close to other locations where it is shooting. Sometimes, Adam says, a production house may bring in its own generators.

Bukan Ayat Al-Quran

Tengok keseluruhan. Memang nampak cantik sekiranya dibuat untuk menghiasi dinding rumah.

Sekali pandang macam ayat dan kalimah  Al-Quran. Sebenarnya ayat dari Bible.

Wasallam.

Identity Theft

serenemaklong.blogspot.com

It consultant Johannes Tjoa received a call while he was overseas. The person who claimed was calling from his bank said that the bank wanted to increase the credit limit on Tjoa’s credit card. The man asked for Tjoa’s credit card number. If he was from the bank, he should have all Tjoa’s details. Had Tjoa given his details, he might have become a victim of identity theft. Such thefts can result in problems ranging from your defaulting on a car loan you never applied for, or being held accountable for credit card bills.

Any document that requires personal and financial information such as one’s name, address, IC number, birth date, bank account, credit card details or other identifying data are not spared from identity thieves. They can open new credit lines, access, your bank accounts or even apply for official documents like a driver’s licence or passport – all in your name.

Darshan Singh, director of the National Consumer Complaints Centre, says common fraudulent transactions that occur are applications for identity cards, credit cards, bank loans, guarantee of undertakings, and mobile phone, purchase of vehicles and land transactions.

On top of that, photocopies of documents such as identification cards can be difficult to authenticate. When it is a photocopy, the photograph on the IC is not very clear. With collaboration, fraudsters can use your IC to borrow money or purchase vehicles. This can be done in collaboration with external syndicates, or at times, even internal collusion.

How your identity is at risk

Dumpster diving theft: By rummaging through your trash any documents that contain your personal information such as name, address, or credit card or bank account numbers can be used to steal your identity.  An identity can be constructed like a jigsaw puzzle. ATM slips may not contain personal information like your name and  address but all the thief has to do is to pick up  your other bills in the trash to piece the information together.

Mailbox theft is another quick way to collect vital bits of information about you. For example, when a commercial bank renews your credit card by post, sometimes to gets hijacked, All the thief has to do is to put his or her signature down on the back of the card. As there is a time lag between the time it’s stolen and the time when the cardholder realises it’s missing, the damage is already done. The thieves may even take it a step further by applying for a change of address after stealing your mail.

Fishing for info. If you get letters, SMS messages, phone calls or emails from a party claiming to be from your bank or utilities company – beware.  They create almost formal-looking letters or emails that come across as very serious or very attractive from a marketing angle, such as telling that you have won something and in order for them to validate that information, they need your IC number or your date of birth.

Snatch theft. When your bag is snatched or your wallet goes missing, thieves have first-hand access to your documents. The syndicate could get a runner to pretend to be you and perform bank-related transactions.

Online fraud uses email, websites, chat rooms or message boards. Phishing and pharming scams use forged emails and websites to trick recipients into giving your personal information such as credit card data and passwords.

Phishing is frequently done by sending out mass emails that seem to be from legitimate companies or even financial institutions that are familiar to you, The emails often try to evoke an emotional response to a phoney crisis. Usually a request for sensitive information is made, sometimes directing the recipient to a spoofed web page. The web page, like the email, appears authentic and some instances, its URL has been masked so the web address even looks real. Because the email and its corresponding web page seem bona fide, the phisher hopes that at least a fraction of recipients are fooled into submitting their data.

These mirror sites, which contain the same logo and visuals and a similar URL address of the original company, can be created and hosted by anyone I the world. When unsuspecting customers key in their login identification card and pin numbers, the information will be collected. However, financial institutions have taken extra steps like sending an extra pin to your phone or requiring you to to have tokens to key in an additional number as the additional security feature.

Also, phishers use viruses that monitor your Internet activities, and will spring into action when you visit a particular site, either diverting you to an impostor site or capturing your keystrokes. Without virus protection, you may have no idea that malicious codes reside in your hard drive.

Are you a victim?

If you have lost banking-related documents, report to the issuer. For example, if you lodge a police report today and it is later found that a loan application was made out in your name at around the same time, then you liability is limited.. You are more protected and can prove that it’s not your fault.

If you have lost your IC, make a police report immediately and keep it safe for as long as it takes in case you need it somewhere down the road.

If you receive your monthly credit card statement and find that there is a fraudulent transaction, approach the bank. Typically, from the point you report your card missing, yoi are not liable, However, before any report is made, the liability usually falls on the cardholder. This is to prevent collusion or fraudulent transactions being performed by bone fide cardholders. It’s like having RM50 in your wallet, when you lose it, you lose it.

People can also come to the Financial Mediation Bureau. For banking or financial-related products, the amount claimed should not exceed RM100,000. This amount excludes fraud cases involving payment instruments, credit cards, charge cards, ATM cards and cheques, for which the limit is not more than RM25,000.

15 WAYS TO PREVENT IDENTITY THEFT

OFFLINE

Dispose of your documents carefully

Always shred important document that might contain sensitive information such as your IC and credit card numbers, address and mobile phone number. If you have cancelled your credit card, do’t just cut it into two – destroy the chip as well to prevent any tampering.

Don’t give information freely through phone calls.

If they tell you its part of a freiendly sercisce call, then be careful. If you don’t’t feel comfortable, you can request to come physically to the bank. However, if you are reporting a loss or asking for a permanent credit line increase, they might call to ask for your IC number and date of birth for further verification. Unless you are the one making the call, bank won’t ask for other forms of verification such your mother’s maiden name.

Check your statements

Keep transaction chits so you can tally them with those on the statement. This is in case of the off-chance that a fraudulent transaction is performed.

Monitor your credit card

When you make your payments, watch where your card is going to, especially in restaurants. Instead of giving your card to waiter, make it a practice to walk up to the cashier’s counter to make payment.

When possible, ask for copies that merchants don’t need. When you check into a hotel, a preliminary copy will be printed. This copy will tell the hotel the limit to which they can charge you. When a second and finalised copy is printed upon check out, ask for preliminary copy and destroy it.

Perform A Credit Check Periodically

Check your credit status every now and then to make sure that all loans are legitimately yours and that your financial status is as you know it. ONLINE

Clear your cache when doing e-banking.

Thieves won’t be able to detect which websites you have been to and will find it more difficult to link it up with a mirror site of their own that it is not genuine.

Perform regular anti-virus clean-ups

Install and regularly update your anti-virus software and programs. Popular softwawre such Symantec, McAfee, TrendMicro or Internet Security will beef up protection your computer. Install a good firewall proetection, anti-virus software and anti-spam filter. A program with anti-virus and anti-spyware capabilities can detect and often remove crimeware threats that would otherwise remain hidden on your machine.

Don’t open emails from unknown sources

The moment you open, these parties will be able to implant certain malicious software that will copy information from your computer.

Double-check security when making credit card purchases

Be cautious when making purchases over the phone or on the internet, especially when you are asked for the three-digit card verification value or code (CVV or CVC) printed on the back of your credit card. If you are paying through the legitimate Visa and MasterCard system, they would have an additional security gateway, which will be encrypted. When you key in the CVV code for authentification, this is safe as the merchant themselves don’t have accesss to the CVV number and it will not appear in their records.

It is riskier if you’re giving your data through the phone. The lines will not be encrypted. Make sure you transact via a secured website. Otherwise, there is no real protection and these parties can misuse the information.

Also, if you have multiple credit cards, use the one with the smallest credit limit to avoid losing a large amount of money in the event a fraudulent tansaction occurs.

Avoid performing transactions through wi-fi

If you are accessing banking websites, make sure you are doing it through a secured connection. It is risky to do it in places like cafes and restaurants that offer free wireless internet connection. This can can be dangerous as there can be a lot internet-tapping done by external parties. When you key in information, these parties can record your keystrokes through the wireless connection. The information can be used after you have logged out.

Don’t use personal information numbers as passwords

Don’t use numbers like IC number, date of birth, or driving licence number that can be easily traced by a thief when you coin your passwords for e-banking websites. When a thief steals your wallet, all they have to do is try one of those number –bingo! Create your own numbers instead, or use numbers not available in your wallet, such as your husband’s birthday.

Store sensitive financial and personal information in password-protected files and directories; use strong, non-obvious passwords.

Keep important phone numbers with you

Important phone numbers include those that relate to your personal documents. Customer service hotlines of your credit card and ATM issuers should always be kept in a safe place for easy retrieval. Besides storing those numbers in your mobile phone, you can also make a photocopy of the hotline numbers printed on your credit cards. However, remember to store the copies in a very safe place.

Watch what you send out in your emails and mobile phones

Unless you’re absolutely certain a site is legitimate and secure, don’t provide you IC number over the web. Never send it in an email or instant message.
