The Mosaïcultures Internationales show is held every few years in various international locations. The event draws expert horticulturists from across the globe who are keen to show off their incredible living works of art. In 2013 these colorful and often giant-sized sculptures were displayed in the Mosaïcultures Internationales’ city of origin, Montreal, for just over three months. At the Mosaïcultures Internationales 2013, teams from 20 countries created over 50 works of art. The works represented the culture of each team’s origin while conforming to the “Land of Hope” theme specified by the organizers. Sub-themes centered on environmental protection. Mosaiculture differs from topiary, as it mainly uses the foliage of vibrantly hued living plants to make up displays, rather than focusing on trimming shrubs into various forms. The use of living plants makes it an ideal medium for an environmental message. {Yohani Kamaruddin]
