A Different Way of Hunting

serenemaklong.blogspot.com

WE know what  it’s like for an animal to hunt by seeing, hearing, and smelling. But what would it be like to hunt by feeling an animal’s warmth a long way off?

A female mosquito can feel the warmth of a warm-blooded animal from along way off with the two wiggly feelers on her head.

The blood of warm animals, including humans, is a female mosquito food. When a mosquito comes onto your arm, her feelers have told her you are warm and ready to eat! The mosquito sticks her proboscis through your skin and injects her saliva. This saliva contains anticoagulants that prevent your blood from clotting. She then sucks your blood into her abdomen until it is full.

Mosquitoes can carry many types of diseases that are caused by bacteria, parasites, or viruses. The two most known ones are malaria dan dengue.

Malaria is caused by a parasite that is transmitted by an Anopheles mosquito, whereas dengue is caused by a virus that is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito. The aedes mosquito is easily recognizable by the white stripes on the head, thorax, abdomen and legs.

To prevent mosquitoes from breeding, eliminate sources of standing water inside and outside your house. Fumigation by the municipality is a way to get rid of mosquitoes as well.
