BEING brought up in a busy metropolitan like Kuala Lumpur, Schanizan  wants his family members keep in touch with their traditional roots. For this reason, he regularly take them back to his in-laws’ village.

His eldest son, Muhammad Zikry, 5, used to watch his teenage uncle, Najib fish in a small shallow stream in front of his grandfather’s house. Najib had been doing that for quite sometime. However, he never manage to catch even a single fish.

One day, Najib asked Zikry whether he would like to try his hand at fishing. Of course the little boy was delighted being given such opportunity.

After handing over the rod to him, Najib went back to the house to get some drinks from the kitchen.

Well, call it beginner’s luck, Zikry did manage to catch a small haruan. However, while trying to free the fish off the hook, its gills was torn. He began to cry, aloud.

Najib rushed to his side to see what was that all about. Zikry showed him the dead fish.

“Acik, I don’t want to catch fish ever again!”
